Volunteers come from all over Harford County and surrounding communities to offer and share their skills, caring and support to the homeless men and women who reside at our shelter. Volunteers enjoy free parking, a flexible schedule and a variety of volunteer opportunities!
Most of all, they experience the opportunity to be part of a compassionate environment that nurtures people during the most difficult time of their life as they work to turn their lives around. You will leave Welcome One knowing you have made a difference in the lives of many people.
What do volunteers do at our shelter?
- Prepare meals in our fully equipped industrial kitchen
- Assist with administrative tasks, working side by side with office staff
- Secure donations of needed supplies and food
- Serve as team members to develop fund raising events and increase community awareness of our mission and the work of our shelter
- Host recreational activities
- Offer lessons in practical life skills
Our shelter residents want you to know your volunteer support is important:
“Welcome One has helped me keep the job I have and get a better higher paying full-time job to get back on my feet. Because of the shelter I will be back on my feet having my own apartment very soon. Without the shelter, I would be dead or living in the woods. I have never been homeless and it’s not fun.” –Will, former resident
"It gives me a peace of mind that there is hope for me and that I have a fighting chance for survival. Without this place I have no idea where my life would be." –Scott, former resident
"One word for Welcome One: a blessing! If it was not for Welcome One, I would have been sleeping in my car. I had a job but no place to live. I’ve been able to save some money, pay off several large bills and I plan on moving into my own place this Saturday.” –Nannie, former resident

Host a third party fund raiser for Welcome One
This is fun! Having a birthday or another anniversary but you “don’t need a thing”? Ask your guests to make a donation to Welcome One and bring a check instead?
Get a group of friends together and hold a fund raiser for Welcome One! Have a bowling party, yard sale, bake sale, rock-a-thon! Are you a vendor who sells beauty products, food products, jewelry or kitchen products? Have a sale and tell your customers that 10% of all proceeds will go toward benefiting the only full-service emergency homeless shelter in Harford County.
If you have an idea for a fund raiser you would like to do for Welcome One, please give Executive Director Susan Moscareillo a call – she would love to talk with you!
BECOME A COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR
Spread the word/Donate Items from our “Wish List”
If you’re a member of service club or civic group, or your employer is looking for a good charitable organization that works directly in your community, please tell them about us! We have information brochures to share, and staff and board members who would love to come and talk to your group. Better yet, why not bring your friends for a tour so they can see our shelter first hand?
Maybe you and your friends/co-workers want to help but your schedule doesn’t permit you to volunteer at the shelter. How about collecting items from our “wish list” to donate to the shelter and help keep our costs down? We use a lot of bathroom tissue with 28 people in residence!
